How to Make Your Computer Faster
Can you do anything to improve things? Can you change anything? You may be surprised to learn that there are many things you can do to make your PC run faster with minimal work on your part. So before parting with your hard earned money, here are three things that you can try to improve your slow PC.
Faster Boot Up Times
The easiest way to make your boot times better is to simply reduce the number of things that need to boot up. This can easily be done by opening up MSCONFIG, a utility that is available from the RUN menu of any version of Windows. Click on Start, then Run. In the box type MSCONFIG and click Ok. When you get into the utility, look to see if there are any programs that you don’t need to boot every time you start Windows, and remove the check mark. You will still be able to use these programs from the start menu. Just make sure that you don’t turn off anything that your computer will need to run properly – so don’t turn off any Microsoft services or Security programs.
Faster Web page Loading Speeds
Web browsers can get bogged down with internet clutter. So what can you do to fix the problem? The easiest way is to simply remove all of the cookies and other assorted goods that clog up your browser. Click on Start and then Control Panel. Look for Internet Options and double click to open it up. In the Browsing History section click Delete. The next dialog box allows you to choose what to delete and what not to delete. Make sure the ‘Preserve Favourites’ box is checked. It is entirely up to you, but the three options normally chosen are: Temporary Internet Files (This has the most web clutter), History and Cookies. Additionally, try getting a browser that is proven to be fast. The newest version of Firefox 3.0 is incredibly fast, but you can find even faster browsers in Google Chrome or Opera if you don’t need as many functions in your web browsing. Basically, cut back on bells and whistles and enjoy the speed benefit you gain.
